Attention Span Test
A clinical measure of sustained attention and vigilance. Targets appear among distractors over a continuous period — miss too many and your attention span is flagged. How long can you maintain peak focus?

01 /How to Play
- Targets will appear on screen at random intervals among distractors.
- Tap or click only the target — not the distractors.
- Maintain focus for the full 90-second session.
- Your score is accuracy % combined with reaction consistency.
- Attention lapses (missed targets or false alarms) are tracked separately.
02 /The Science
Sustained attention — the ability to maintain focused alertness over time — is mediated by the right prefrontal cortex and anterior cingulate cortex, with arousal modulation from the locus coeruleus-norepinephrine system. The Continuous Performance Test (CPT), on which this assessment is based, is the gold-standard clinical measure for ADHD screening. Attention performance peaks at ages 20-35 and shows gradual decline thereafter. Individual differences in sustained attention strongly predict academic and professional performance.
03 /Pro Tips
- Minimize external distractions before starting — close other tabs.
- Sit upright — posture affects alertness and prefrontal cortex activity.
- Avoid testing when fatigued — sustained attention is highly sensitive to sleep debt.
- Focus on consistency, not speed — accuracy matters more than reaction time here.
- If you notice your mind wandering, gently refocus without judgment.
